Thoughts about Arconsanti & the Auroville Earth Institute ?

Howdy folks! I'm very interested in doing a 3 - 6 month (or longer!) earth-based building apprenticeship / internship in the near future and would love some advice. Obviously the lower the cost the better, as I'm on a small budget.

I've been thinking about the following two earth-based building schools, partly because I've heard good things about both, and partly because I'm intrigued about the unique intentional community settings ... does anybody have direct experience with either of these projects? Or does anybody have recommendations about other programs that I may want to look into?

Auroville Earth Institute < www.earth-auroville.com/ >

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and collective wisdom about all of this!

  • Hi there,

I have been to both places. I would like to suggest something simple. Go see them both before signing up for any workshops or classes or making any commitments. If there is one thing that I've learned over all of my years traveling, is that expectations can be a killer. If you live in the states, Arco is easy to get to, you just have to pick the right season to go. Arizona and concrete can be tricky in the summer. Which is the same for Auroville in the raining season. But, go and look and see. Then make a choice. Nothing is as it seems on an Internet site or on paper. That's my two cents.
